Chicago, make way!
The streets of Chicago may be congested, but I’m impressed with the beautiful streetscapes of this old windy city.
The gardening world will be descending upon you this week for the world’s largest garden trade show. The Independent Garden Center Show (IGC Show) is where local, independently owned garden center owners preview and purchase products for their stores.
I have nothing against big box stores, but I do my best to support my local nursery.
How about you?
Last year, I was introduced to some clever and useful gardening products and videotaped many of them for my Garden Center TV website.
One of these products was “Cowpots”, a plantable pot made from what else? Cow dung! You can plant and fertilize at the same time!
If you haven’t visited Garden Center TV yet, I invite you to do so. I will be posting a whole series of video blogs in the upcoming weeks featuring the latest and best for your garden- according to this Eden maker!
Check out this video highlighting “Potlifters” a low-tech but very efficient strapping system that helps you lift heavy objects in the garden.
GCTV is a video sharing site for the gardening industry, but “curious gardeners” are always welcome!
Hi Concerned Gardener:
Welcome to EdenMakers!
I agree that Patrick Moore’s keynote speech presented arguments that are not often brought up in (mostly) homogenized groups like gardening pros. I was stimulated by it though, (in light of his past activity as a GreenPeace founder and scientist) and his “fantatic” commitment to the environment as a young activist. I don’t question his sincerity. His background made me even more curious as to why he would make such a sharp turn in his beliefs and convictions regarding some of the most widely implicated toxic materials. I couldn’t help but listen more closely and mull over the information he was sharing, regardless if I agree with him or not.
I quite enjoyed listening to another view on pressing environmental issues. We need to hear from all sides, so I don’t consider him dangerous. I would consider it dangerous if we didn’t have access to divergent information!
Thanks for sharing your opinion. By the way, I don’t find it odd that he was sponsored by Bayer since they are not at “odds” with one another.
Was anyone who attended the IGC Show have a reaction to the Patrick Moore’s keynote speech? I felt blindsided by someone who presented himself as an environmentalist promoting DDT, GMO’s, chlorine, and other toxic ideas. To say that there is no research connecting pesticides with cancer is untrue. He is truly a dangerous propagandist. Anyone else have find it odd that he was sponsored by Bayer?
Great suggestions! Wish I could be there to shop with you! My brother doesn’t live too far from NewYork…I could kill two birds with one stone doing what I love most–garden shopping and visiting with my bro. Love the Cowpot idea!
I would hit the new product section first and then you can go from aisle to aisle unless you are looking for specific products.
I will preview everything tomorrow and will have my video crew here on Wednesday to tape my favorite finds.
If you see me and recognize me, please say “hi.” I will keep my eyes open for you as well.
Shirley
This will be my first time visiting the IDC show. I’m excited, but I won’t have a lot of time to visit. Any suggestions on the best way to cruise the exhibit hall?
