Clever Eden-Maker Tip:
I have to admit, Â this isn’t really a tip for gardening, but its a good tip, so I hope you will read on. I was in Chicago recently and stayed in a hotel with no microwave or mini kitchen area and I had a cold panini sandwich that needed to be warmed up.Â
What good is a panini with unmelted cheese?
Put your hotel’s iron to work in unconventional ways!
A light bulb went on in my head as I was ironing my shirt and noticed that I had scorched the corner of my collar. The burn mark reminded me of grill marks…..you see where I’m going with this? I was so hungry that the smell of burnt shirt was appealing to me, and then I remembered I had a cold sandwich from the afternoon.
I took my aluminum wrapped-sandwich and ironed it! No steam setting. It only took a few passes, (on both sides) to melt the cheese and warm the sandwich to perfection!Â
It was a true “I Love Lucy” moment! What crazy ideas have you come up in your moments of desperation?

Ha, ha…cute!
Do you know anyone else (bloggers) who is going to GWA? Yes, I would love to meet you!

Shirley – this reminds me of the time Martha Stewart was on Car Talk, the NPR show with Click & Clack – the Tappet Brothers, and they had a wild discussion of engine block cooking. Thanks for the chuckle. Careful, though. You’re moving into MY blogging territory if you get to irreverant.
Billy Geeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PS: Lemme know if Portland becomes a reality. I’d love to say “hi”!
No, the food didn’t taste at all like engine oil. It tasted very caloric though.
Great idea!! Very useful.. thanks!
Hi Linda- thanks for visiting. I am on the zany side, in general!
Anna- Cooking your dinner in the engine is double duty stretched to the limit! Did the food taste like engine oil? Can’t imagine!

My husband’s dad was a cook and a race fan. He would wrap supper in several layers of aluminum foil and cook it on the engine as they traveled to the city where the race was held. He’s cooked chicken and a roast.
I’ve used the coffee maker heating element to warm stuff up. But I think the fact that you ironed your dinner is the best.
Very ingenious Shirley! and hilarious!
I love that heavy equipment too. “My other car is a bobcat!”
I can’t think of anything like that right off the top of my head, but it does prove the old adage that necessity is the mother of invention! 🙂 Well done.
LOL, Shirley, Martha Stewart I am not. Whereas I used to have a few domestic licks, now, I figure nothing gets done without a mini-excavator or a bobcat.
What other “off the wall” things do you do Steve? You sound like a good resource.

Shirley, many bachelors applauded your (late) discovery. I personally have been ironing cheeseburgers and tuna and cheese sandwiches for years now.
Sounds more like that Johnny Dep movie Benny and June.
This is extraordinary!
